JOHN KANNENBERG

Sound and visual artist John Kannenberg (b.1969) received his BFA with a concentration in drawing and painting in 1993, and has been performing and writing music for over fifteen years. In 1999, John began work as a solo sound artist using manipulated field recordings as the foundation for loop-based generative electronic pieces. While his sound works have grown slightly more structured in form, they nonetheless remain freely expressive and chance-based while incorporating applied visual art techniques related to field drawing, minimalism and abstract expressionism in their construction. His major audio and visual works deal with a variety of themes including primal natural forces, spirituality and mindful contemplation, melancholy and nostalgia, and abstracted narrative tales.
John has performed in the United States and the UK and exhibited sound art installations both alone and as part of a collective of sound, visual and interactive designers known as J3. Since April 2002, John has served as the creator, designer and curator of www.stasisfield.com,, an experimental mp3 record label and digital art gallery presenting works in a variety of media by artists from across the globe. More information about John’s solo recordings and activities is available at www.johnkannenberg.com.
