CROUTON NO.20
COLLECTIONS OF COLONIES OF BEES “MEYOU”

On October 4, 1998, Chris Rosenau and Jon Mueller recorded what would eventually become known as meyou – before their duo Collections of Colonies of Bees or the label Crouton even existed. This archival disc is being presented as a testimony to the future work that these two would produce: the self-titled first release (produced both domestically and in the UK), Rance, fa.ce (a, and Stuck (forthcoming from the Pillowscars label, Sweden), as well as their live performances in the U.S. and Japan. Meyou is a haunting work centered on lapsteel and vocals. It is perhaps this duo’s most intimate moment, and certainly their most melancholic. Recorded live, with no overdubs, in a large wooden room of a nearly abandoned warehouse, every nuance is captured; every movement becomes part of the structure. As the disc progresses, these elements, combined with the long, textural bowed notes of the lapsteel, and mournful, wailing vocals, reach glorious sonic heights that may not have been achieved by this pairing since. This absolutely stunning CD is released as a very limited edition of 200, and comes packaged in an embossed, printed, oversized jacket in a 6×6” anti-static sleeve.
